The more you pitch, the more you learn about the contacts you are pitching to. In Propel, much of this data is collected for you automatically. Below, you will learn about the types of data Propel collects about your contacts and how you can leverage this to get better pitching results.
Each subsection below relates to a different tab on the contact profile.
Propel automatically collects information about past pitching campaigns for each of your contacts. You can also record your own notes, calls, and upload attachments for each of your contacts. By reviewing this information before adding a contact to a new media list, you can gain an understanding of whether this contact is right for your current pitch.
The Media Lists tab shows you all media lists where this contact appears. You can see the related account, which user was assigned to pitch that contact, when the contact was last contacted, as well as any notes left for that particular pitch.
Together, this information shows you how frequently you are pitching this contact, and which of your teammates do most of the pitching.
The Pitches tab shows you recent and upcoming pitches for this contact. You can see who has been pitching the contact and when, as well as the result of each pitch. You can also see any upcoming pitches, sorted by publishing deadline (if provided).
Use this tab to understand pitch frequency, results, and teammate engagement. It can help you decide whether this contact is right for your current campaign.
By leaving notes on your different contacts, you and your teammates can share information easily. If you are the only one pitching, leaving notes can help ensure that you don't forget important details about your contacts.
Example: A contact may prefer phone over email. Leaving a note ensures that key preferences are shared across your team.
Upload any documentation relevant to a particular contact. Review these files before adding them to a media list or sending a pitch.
Review any pitching initiatives or accounts where your contact has opted out. This will help you avoid contacting them about topics they’ve clearly stated they’re not interested in.
You’ve reviewed your historical data. Now verify current interest. Propel makes it easy to check if your contact’s beat has changed.
Read recently published articles to understand if the journalist is still a fit. Also view their latest tweets directly within Propel to gauge current interests.
Once you’ve verified this contact is a good fit, use the tools in the profile to customize your approach.
In the left sidebar, you’ll see the best time and day to pitch this contact. This data is generated based on past open/response patterns and adjusted to your time zone.
Remember, this is a helpful suggestion, not a rule. Pitch when it fits your goals and campaign timing.
If your teammates have pitched the contact in the past, review their success rate and past correspondence. Speak with those who had strong results to learn what worked.
Check the Past Coverage tab to see what articles the journalist has written about your pitches. Learn what worked and why, and use that to craft your next pitch.
By leveraging Propel’s powerful contact insights, you can make smarter decisions and pitch more effectively. Use both past data and current signals to build stronger media relationships and improve your campaign outcomes.
